After the loss of a child, knowing where to turn or who to turn to can be challenging. The people you turn to first may try to be supportive without knowing what to say or do. Others may offer to help not realizing the feeling of helplessness they are exacerbating.
Here, we share resources that are available to those who are bereaved and to those who want to learn more in support of their loved ones.
Support Groups:
If you or a loved one may benefit from a group support session: hearing about other's experiences with loss, sharing your own story of loss, or simply joining a group to gain comfort in knowing you are not alone, then here are a couple of great places to contact.
1) Star Legacy Foundation - https://starlegacyfoundation.org/support-groups/

2) Share Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support - https://nationalshare.org/our-programs/

Child Life Specialist:
If your family has children anticipating the loss of a sibling, a child life specialist may be beneficial. While most hospitals have child life specialists for preparing a child or their family member for a surgery/procedure, there are other organizations that support virtually, such as Child Life on Call. See link below.
Books on Grief and Loss:
There are many books on grief and everyone may connect to a different book. It is expected as we all grieve in different ways. Below is a list of books related to loss and grief for both adults and children.
Recommended Adult Books:
Recommended Children Books:

There are many great resources for those who have experienced a loss or their supporting friends and family. The resources listed here are a small sample of those available. Additionally, many events occur (non-profits and hospital sponsored) in October as a part of pregnancy and infant awareness month. We highly recommend reaching out to the hospitals, doctors, and healthcare professionals for additional resources and event information.
